If you want to do something memorable, something you will remember for the rest of your life, the only right answer is Crete. Apart from the countless cultural treasures, the rich gastronomic and food culture and the captivating natural environment, there is another way to be introduced to the Cretan way of life. This consists, of course, of the countless local festivals and folk festivals.
Cretan culture and festivals
Whether at the beginning of summer, in the middle, you’re at the end, or even in the autumn and winter, Crete has over 1,200 festivals all over the island, many of which are within a short distance from our hotel. The Cretan festivals that take place throughout the year are usually intertwined with religious, folk or cultural festivals, which are wonderful occasions to celebrate, to enjoy to the fullest the flavours of Cretan cuisine, to drink, sing and dance, to get to know each other better, to feel the heart and spirit of Crete.
Cultural tour with experiential character
Experiential participation in the institution of Cretan feasts, festivals and other corresponding local events is of undeniable value in providing a holistic experience of Cretan life to both international and domestic visitors. Combined with timeless activities such as traditional dances, mantinades and Cretan music, visiting historical monuments, churches and monasteries and interacting with the semiotics surrounding Cretan costume, as well as many other great pieces of the island’s folklore, an unforgettable experience of unique Cretan hospitality awaits visitors to our island.
Notable local events
The aim is to abolish island tourism, which focuses on sterile recreation and entertainment for the visitor, and replace it with a substantial “cultural journey” that will arouse the interest of every visitor and cultivate his or her love for the local tradition, giving him or her good reasons to visit Crete again. Among the most important events in the area of our hotel are the festival in the square of Voukolies, on the day of Good Friday, and the wine festival in Vouves. Throughout, however, Crete remains authentic and wonderful, with cultural events that keep the raw beauty of Cretan well-being unchanged.
